3D Imaging Achieved Using Only Tape and Math

Researchers have developed a method to capture 3D images without using any traditional camera lenses.

The technique builds upon previous work where a Raspberry Pi camera with a layer of Scotch tape over its sensor was used. This tape acted as a diffuser, creating a blurry image.

Using deconvolution mathematics, it's possible to recover a clear image from this initial blur.

To achieve 3D imaging, directional bias was added to the deconvolution process. This mimics the effect of slightly shifting camera positions, revealing different angles of the subject.
