Lunar Lander Game Recreated on PDP-1 Computer

A retrocomputing project has successfully ported the classic Lunar Lander game to the 1959 PDP-1 minicomputer, showcasing early computing capabilities.

The game Lunar Lander has a history connected to DEC's PDP computers. The first text-based version, Lunar Landing Game, was developed on a PDP-8 in 1969, predating the more widely known 1979 Atari arcade version.

Despite the PDP-1 having more hardware limitations than the PDP-8, Michael Gardi has recreated the graphical version of Lunar Lander on it. The PDP-1's graphical capabilities were previously demonstrated by the game SpaceWar.

An emulated version of the game is available online for play or download. Gardi hopes to eventually run the game on a surviving, working PDP-1 machine.

This project is part of an ongoing retrocomputer contest with three weeks remaining for submissions. While there is no specific prize for the 'most retro' project, participants can compete for bragging rights and prizes.
